Some Paintings Refuse to be Painted

apple on branch Sometimes things don’t turn out like you planned. For example, that awesome painting here, of an owl in an apple tree?

Well, check out the photo I was using as my guide…

Yeah…

Things went awry.

But here’s the thing.

The final product turned out awesome!

I just had to trust in the process.

I had to let the Spirit guide me.

My intent was to paint an apple as a meditation on the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

I tried to paint the forbidden fruit.

The fruit refused to be painted.

And here is where trusting in the Spirit comes in. Sometimes we have to give ourselves over to the process.

So I did.

Maybe the reason Adam and Eve were supposed to avoid eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was because they were supposed to trust the process.

Let the Spirit guide them.

Because let’s face it – we humans aren’t really very good at distinguishing Good and Evil. There is so much evil happening in this world, and most of it is done in the name of Good.

Sometimes we have a plan. We think we know what is best.

Sometimes we’re wrong.

Sometimes we have to step back and get out of our own way.

Trust the process.
